Conditions:
Tie City Area:1-30-12 from Amber Travsky:
Great conditions even after a busy weekend. Grooming was in progress early to lay down new "corduroy" but Randy said he didn't expect to set new classic tracks before Wednesday. The tracks are in good shape, though, and should be fine until then.

Chimney Park Trails:
1-27-12 from Jim Robinson:
I arrived at the Chimney Park Trailhead at 8:30 a.m. Weather conditions were windy and cool, temperature was 18 degrees F, with snow still falling. I was laying down fresh classic tracks through four inches of powder snow. Snowpack in the trees is no deeper than 18 inches but more than adequate for skiing. I skied the Porter-Lodgepole-Jelm View trail circuit, clockwise, and found the trails to be in excellent condition. Recent grooming and classic tracks have been covered with Friday's snowstorm but all trails are still skiable. Note: The Forest Service has posted a sign near the beginning of the Woods Creek Loop alerting skiers that the section of Woods Creek from point A to point G on the ski trail map is closed because of ongoing logging operations.
1-27-12 from USFS groomer:
We're having some mechanical issues with our groomer sleds, so we won't be grooming the ski trails on the Snowy Range this weekend. Hopefully grooming will resume next week, but we still need to get parts and fix sleds. Sorry about that. Please let any member of the public know this is just a situation we can't do anything about, but at least we think there's a good base and powder on base conditions are always nice.
Note from USFS personnel:
We plan to be grooming the trails on Thursdays through the season.
